Apply For Financial Aid, And Do It Fast!

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (also known as the FAFSA), has been known to cater to students who would like to pursue their bachelor’s or graduate degrees in just about any field of study. Though the process can sometimes be tedious and somewhat complex, still more and more aspiring college students apply for this financial aid. By actually visiting the FAFSA website, (http://www.fafsa.ed.gov is the actual website address) an applicant will learn so much regarding the information he or she needs to organize before applying for a financial aid.

There are three basic steps that applicants need to know when they apply for financial aid via the FAFSA reward system. Of course, the student needs to determine and organize first the information and documents they need to present when they apply for a student aid. Included in these are the student’s dependency status, the school codes of the universities or colleges where they plan to apply, their personal identification number or PIN (the FAFSA website will give you directions on how to obtain your pin) , and the deadlines for submitting their FAFSA applications (keep in mind that you can apply at anytime, but most school financial aid departments have specific dates in mind for your application to be completed and processed in time to pay for your current classes).

The second step is actually filling out of the FAFSA form, which requires students and parents to correctly and efficiently answer the forms provided to them. It is important that you submit thorough, very complete information on this application.  Once the application is complete, you will submit it to the FAFSA offices.  You have several options in regard to submitting your application.  The favored, and time efficient way is to submit this application electronically to the FAFSA website.  The other option is to send a hand signed copy via regular mail.  Your pin that you previously applied for from FAFSA will be required to complete this application online, as well as for future communications and informational exchanges online.

Finally, it is vital that the student and parents follow-up on the application.  The easiest way is to check the status on the FAFSA website.  Once the FAFSA website is showing that it’s been submitted to your college of choice, you will need to continue follow-up with your college’s financial aid department.   Do not be shy, or wait for them to contact you.  The process of receiving your money will be much smoother if you are on top of the process.  Ask questions like:  “What is the next step in this process?”  And “Is there anything else that I need to do to make sure there are no bumps in the road?” or even “What is the amount of time I should expect to wait between this step and the next?”

Follow these simple bits of advice and your application process will go smoothly, allowing you an easy start (at least, financially speaking) to your college endeavors.
